Description

Domaine d’Andezon is the most famous wine from one of our favourite co-operative wineries, Vignerons d’Estézargues. If you’ve not tried their Cuvee des Copains then it’s very much worth your time as a fun fruit led Cotes du Rhone.

But back to this one…Andezon is a full-bodied, meaty powerful red showing lots of dark fruit flavours, richness and complexity. From a single plot in a single village in the Southern Rhone, it shows that complex, savoury, chocolatey, iron rich, depth of flavour that we’d associate with far more expensive wines, think baby Hermitage. Whatever you call it, this is one of those wines that punches well above it weight and shows the depth and fruit to easily slip into the role of our favourite big steak red for chilly nights and richer meals.

Estézargues is a unique winemaking cooperative, located 20 minutes from Avignon in the south fo the Rhone Valley. First established in 1965, they shifted over to natural winemaking with the arrival of Jean-François Nicqin 1980, a talented winemaker influenced by the ideas of natural wine legends like Marcel Lapierre. This put them firmly on track towards respectful farming and using practically no additives in the cellar.

They use no commercial yeast, no enzymes, no gum arabic, no acidifiers, and just a tiny amount of SO2 at bottling if needed, to make sure the wines are safe to travel.
