The first wine in this selection of German Rieslings highlights the grape varieties unique ability to balance residual sugar while still remaining clean and precise due to the piercingly fresh acidity which holds together the off-dry Dr.Loosen Riesling. Both easy drinking and fruit led, but also beautifully balanced and complex with stone fruit, green apple and minerality.
The second shows how the variety changes depending on where it’s grown, although Riesling grows best on Slate rich soils, there are a variety of slates to investigate should you really wish to go down the rabbit hole. Here Gunderloch perfectly showcases the firm serious edge that red slate heavy vineyards can bring to riesling, a little warmth, ripe fruit and spice compliment the citrus blossom and cool pear notes. Another lesson in minerality if one that’s very pleasant.
