New month! New season! New pack!

For April we have put together a very varied pack with a lot of different bottles & styles for you to enjoy. A wine pick & mix if you will!

We have a premium Burgundian red, a classic Provence style Rose, a fan favourite Picpoul white, a brand new ripe fruity French red, a floral elegant Soave from Italy & last but not least a newly tasted Manzanilla Sherry from Spain.

This is a selection to suit sunny days in the garden, cooler evenings, picnics with pals, cosy baked Mediterranean dishes for dinner & the ultimate aperitif, Sherry, enjoy by itself or with just a bag of ready salted crisps!

This month’s pack includes:

Guillot Broux Bourgignon Red (France) – Ripe fresh cherry, black cherry, tart blackcurrant, some rose petal & dusty lightly developing leafy flecks. Precise & classy. We absolutely loved this when we opened it to try & in fact enjoyed the whole bottle over a long evening & it kept getting better & better.

The Burgundian estate has been farming organically for 30 years. A gorgeous 50& Pinot Noir & 50% Gamay blend. Pinot Noir from a single terroir of the Mâconnais, Gamay from a single terroir of Beaujolais on the edge of the Brouilly appellation, aged for 11 months 50% in vats & 50% in barrels.

Le Ballon Rose (France) – This is a dry organic Rose made from 50% Grenache & 50% Cinsault. The palate shows ripe fruit and a nice round texture upheld by lively acidity. A quintessential summery rose that would pair perfectly with charcuterie, salads, white meat and delicate cheeses.

Pique & Mix Piquepoul Terret White (France) – This is a wonderful Picpoul de Pinet alternative at a great price. A blend of Piquepoul & Terret grapes from Languedoc-Roussillon. It has the similar lemon, green apple & saline notes but with an added tropical fruit tang on the nose & palate. Dry, vibrant citrus flavours make this an ideal match for seafood & shellfish plus a very lunchtime friendly 12.5% alcohol.

Les Vignerons Grenache Pinot Noir Red (France) – Young, typically French in style with black juicy fruits on nose. You’ll find aromas of black cherry, ripe strawberry & white pepper in the glass from the Grenache & the subtle notes of plum & leather from the Pinot Noir. The blend of these sumptuous appetitising flavours make this medium bodied red the ideal accompaniment for any Meditteranean dish as it willbe great with tomato, herb & vegetable based sauces. Beautifully perfumed aromas with notes of red fruit & spices. A smooth, elegant wine with an abundance of ripe red fruit & a lingering finish.

Ilatium Soave (Italy) – A light crisp & refreshing white, straw green in colour. White flowers, green apple & exotic fruits on the nose which follow in the mouth to a delicate, citrusy, dry with almondy & mineral finish. The seven brothers & cousins involved with ILatium Morini changed their approach in 2004 & decided to keep the best grapes to make wine themselves rather than selling to local cooperatives. This has worked out excellently for them as they have been winning numerous awards & now they find themselves at the forefront of the new wave production of Soave, Valpolicella & Amarone in the area.

Diatomists Manzanilla Sherry (Spain) – 100% Palomino & aged for 5 years in bota, this is an invigorating white wine with a subtle, floral, mineral nose. Great intensity with sea breeze salinity running through an impressive structure, there is tension on the palate. The yeasty, baked bread flavours are in balance with apricots & golden apples. In the mouth this is bone dry with an extremely long & clean finish.

A unique style of Manzanilla where the emphasis is on the fruit & terroir as well as the biological aging & solera system.

We love fortified wines at the shop & Sherry in particular has a big space in our hearts. Whether you enjoy this with a full tapas spread of padron peppers & jamon croquetas or just some salted almonds/crisps have it really chilled & pretend you are in the Spanish sunshine with your feet in the ocean.
