Cascina del Melo Barbera is a stunner full of dark chocolate and berry fruit. It has rounded tannins with arresting depth and complexity. It is an intense ruby red with purplish shadings, there are spicey and undergrowth aromas. On the palate, it is warm, full bodied, tannic, yet soft and silky with notes of raspberry and blackberry.
The La Raia vineyard, Cascina del Melo is certified as a biodynamic winery by Demeter. Set in the gentle hills of Piedmont’s Gavi wine district it is producing some truly astonishing wines. In 2003 Giorgio Rossi Cairo bought this stunning 110 hectare estate. The estate is now run by Caterina Rossi Cairo and her English husband Tom Dean who live on the estate with their young children.
