Description

Remarkable Chenin from rising start Vanessa Cherruau in the Loire. A single parcel in the village of Bonnezeaux, planted on schist-sandstone. Seductive minerality, with a lingering struck flint note that carries the direct line of acidity along, and holds the apricot, crisp green apple and creamy malolactic notes. A beautiful combination of Chenin Blanc’s explosive acidity with fresh fruit, flinty minerality and creamy body.

Vanessa Cherruau is among the new wave of dynamic young vignerons fashioning perfumed and textural dry Chenin Blancs in a region with a long history of sweet winemaking. Vanessa has taken over Château de Plaisance from Guy Rochais – a biodynamic grower who controversially pioneered the production of dry wine from his ancient Quarts de Chaume vineyards, which have been farmed organically since 1995 and biodynamically since 2008. Combining a satin texture with precise lemon and peach flavours and a taut, bone-dry palate, this has real finesse. 100% dry Chenin from the Butte de Chaume. Partially aged in barrels for 12 months. Soils of schale, spilite, sandstone. It is a full-bodied and incisive wine, with great minerality.
