This is the first year we have made up a festive fine wine pack, we spend a lot of our days in the shop making them up one by one for customers but we decided this year it would be a great opportunity to showcase the amazing top end premium classics we have & how they can make a splendid case.

We aim to make life that little bit easier for you at this busy time, by spending countless hours pouring over our importer lists & tasting through 2021’s wine offerings to bring you this delicious selection of our most impressive wines to try this December.

Treat yourself or pop it on your Christmas list.

This selection could take you & your loved ones through the whole Christmas Eve & Christmas Day festivities… or even further depending how many you are hosting or how late you stay up with the cheese board!

Michel Gonet 3 Terroirs Champagne 2016 – The 3 Terroirs Blanc de Blancs is an extra brut Champagne made from Chardonnay that spends 6 years ageing on the lees. Elegant and racy with citrus, apple and pear aromas rounded out by hazelnut and toast from the long lees ageing with a delightfully full and creamy mouthfeel. Fantastic value, Blanc de Blanc (100% chardonnay) Champagne. Blended to perfection and expressing the disctinct qualities of the terroir from which its grapes derive.

Chavy Chouet Femelottes Chardonnay 2020 – Les Femelottes in Puligny-Montrachet is an exceptional terroir for a Burgundy, producing subtle white wines. This cuvée is very lively. In the mouth, it is supple, fruity, and balanced. Right now, it can be enjoyed in all its freshness, and for a few years to come. This was open for tasting at our Winter wine fair a few weeks ago & it was singing! A wonderful example of Chardonnay that even a non-Chardonnay drinker would love.

Jean Tardy Cotes du Nuits 2015 – Dark plum and mulberry bouquet with tart red cherries and stony minerality. The quality on show here from Jean Tardy easily raises this Bourgogne status to ‘Village’. There is incredible concentration and intensity on the palate with depth and energy beyond its price point. Classic red and dark cherries combine with subtle earthy notes of “sous-bois” and stony minerality. The tannins are so well integrated, they are pratically non-existent and the fresh finish leaves a mouthwatering experience.

Fattoria Sammontana Chianti Superiore 2017– This Chianti Superiore is made from 100% Sangiovese, from a single plot of the estate’s best vines. It spends one year in old barrels followed by a couple of years in the bottle before release. It’s generous but restrained, has beautiful bright fruit & starting to show some development. A superb Chianti. Made by Daniele & Dario, the fourth generation at this biodynamic Tuscan estate. Within the range they make a balanced mix of traditional Sangiovese’s along with experimental wines vinified in clay amphorae. We champion wines made with minimal intervention & hold firm that the vast majority of our range should be organically farmed at the very least. This approach to our wine shelves means that it is full of independent smaller wineries that are often family owned & farmed by people who feel a connection & passion for the land. It is important to us to showcase classical regions as well as unusual & rare varietals made in a natural way. This Chianti sums up the kinds of wine we want to recommend every day.

Remelluri Rioja Reserva 2013 – The nose is very pronounced, displaying typical Rioja aromas of ripe strawberries, dark plums, cream, vanilla and hints of sweet liquorice. On the palate it is elegant, with well-integrated alcohol, fine-grained tannins and good flavour concentration.

Quinta de Noval LBV Port 2016 – A remarkable example of the Noval style. Treated exactly like a Vintage Port with only noble grape varieties from their own Quinta, trodden by foot and unfiltered. Its main difference is that it is aged for four, sometimes five years in wooden vats instead of the two years typical of Vintage Ports. Definitely an LBV with a difference, with fine structured tannins, great freshness and purity of fruit. It is delicious to drink today, but will age beautifully in its bottle.
