They have more than proven their worth & quality over this year & will perfectly pair with richer dinners on these Winter nights plus present some wonderful talking points at dinner parties.

We present you with the highlight reel of this year’s top picks!

VITIVINICOLA FANGAREGGI PURO! LAMBRUSCO ROSSO (Italy)

Made from hand-harvested Lambrusco Salamino grapes, PURO ! is a light ruby red colour. Fruity and juicy, with aromas of plums and dark berries, the palate is dry and lasting. The wines of Vitivinicola Fangareggi are produced only from the family’s own 24 hectares of land, with a focus on organic practices and using only indigenous yeasts. Consider pairing with meat or mushroom and pasta.

FOLIAS DE BACO UIVO RABIGATO (Portugal)

This is Rabigato from 20 year old vines planted in a blend of schist and granite soils on the coast of Portugal.
It’s a zippy dream boat featuring
aromas of white fruit and grapefruit. Full on refreshment on the palate with citrus pith acidity and a long, salty mineral finish. Enjoy with your favourite fish starters, like gravlax or cullen skink. With their bottles often labelled ‘UIVO’ meaning ‘howl’, Folias de Baco encourages biodiversity and wildlife restoration through the use of low intervention, organic and biodynamic principles.

CHRISTOPHE MURET VIOGNIER (France)

Ripe peaches and nectarines take the lead on this fresh, fruit driven and lightly creamy Viognier from Christophe Muret in the Languedoc. Once a big deal melon exporter, he turned his attention to making great value, pure wines using minimal intervention principles ( in effect organic ). His vines are set upon a garrigue filled outcrop of red clay and limestone, exposed to cooling winds which help to retain freshness in the wines.

ERIC TEXIER CHAT FOU COTES DU RHONE (France)

The granite terroir of the northern Rhône Valley provides a light and cheerful character, this is an elegant, medium bodied red for any moment. 45% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and 15% white varieties (Roussanne, Clairette and Grenache Blanc). Crunchy bright red fruits on the nose with a mineral and savoury texture, excellent meat pie pairing. Like all good winemakers, Eric strongly believes that wines are made in the vineyard, and that his work, after the harvest, consists in following the lead of the vintage and accompanying the wines so they fulfill their potential. Exact steps in vinification vary according to the varietals, terroirs and vintages, but the goal is always to provide the grapes, musts and wines with the best environment and to intervene as little as possible.

BORGATTA LAMILLA 2016 (Italy)

Rustic, complex, aged Dolcetto showing beautiful development with notes of coffee and tobacco over dark berries and forest floor. Proper stuff for wintery nights. Open this stunner on the night you don’t feel like cooking, and enjoy with your charcuterie. Made by Emilio Oliveri, who has been passionately working a tiny 2 hectares of land since the 60’s with his wife Marisa, often without extra seasonal help. A true labour of love and this wine is proof.

ALTOLANDON DULCE ENERO ICE WINE (Spain)

A wonderful dessert wine and talking point. Made at one of Spain’s highest-altitude vineyards from grapes left to freeze on the vine, allowing the juice to concentrate and develop. This golden, almost amber coloured wine has a very intense, appealing nose of sweet tropical fruits, peach, apricot, citrus fruits and some spice. The palate is packed full of white fleshed and stone fruits, with the medium body ending with a long sweet finish, supported by crisp acidity. Equally satisfying with rich starters such as foie gras or pâté, or following dinner alongside strong cheeses.
