It’s here…our December wine pack. The big one. We’ve been working towards this case since we started our wine packs back in April.

We knew we wanted it to include a festive fortified, a richer older vintage Sparkling & lots of Classic region big hitters. We think it delivers!

Here we have a journey through 6 favourites that we have been singing the praises of for a while. This pack is a way for us to group together 6 very special but different wines that are excellent value for money & will take you through the month in style. They have more than proven their worth & quality over this year & will perfectly pair with richer dinners on these Winter nights.

Starting with our festive favourite Extramarium Reserve Cava, a 2016 vintage cava with big toasty biscuity notes. This bottle is THE aperitif for Christmas morning if you can last that long before popping it.

Then onto our new Organic Albarino, expect zingy apple & zesty lemon notes with a slight spritz on the palate, this is a big crowd pleaser ideal with any shellfish or even late night fish & chips.

The barrel aged Aligote from Burgundy, is certainly one of the stars of this pack. A rare but exceptional example of this grape from Burgundy. The Chavy family are famous & well established in the Cote de Beaune, making wine in & around Puligny Montrachet. This is an opulent & lively white wine full of toasty ripe citrus & minerality.

Moving on to the reds we picked Alvaro Palacios’ Montesa Crianza Rioja which we recommend all the time as one of the best Rioja’s we have ever tasted, a great expression of the Garnacha grape from the easternmost point of this famous region. Combining oak aging with purity & sweetness of red & black berried fruit.

Our last pick for the red wines is a deep rich Rhone Andezon from Vignerons d’Estezargues, a minimal intervention cooperative in the southern Rhone working with organic grapes. This is a big boy that brings all the flavour, tannin & mouth feel that you want from a Cote du Rhones Village Syrah. It is the equivalent to a baby Hermitage & offers excellent value for money as it packs a real chocolate, savoury, luscious fruit punch – perfect for steak night.

We finish with an absolute classic Port so tasty it’s quickly become a Cork&Cask favourite. Otima 10 year old Tawny is a lighter, more approachable and versatile style of Port, from a selection of cask-matured wines averaging 10 years of age. Think dried fig, blended raisins, honey and lightly toasted nuts….very well suited to these chilly days & a cheese board by the fire or over a game of Cluedo.
