With their very hands on involvement and expert inputs a light Porter with exuberant plummy notes was produced. It comes in at 5.3% abv but really doesn’t taste it. A very small amount of roasted barley added at the very end of the mash promotes the fruitiness of the brew and restrains the roasted character. What you are left with is all the chocolatey and caramel goodness of the malts without any harsh more robust notes. 100g/L of 100% natural plum purée, of the Victoria, Opal and Marjorie’s Seedling variety, was added across the boil and in the fermenter.

The result is delicious. A deep amber to dark brown colour is achieved with a purplish tint. A creamy tan head lofts up smells of dusty milk chocolate. The plums pair perfectly with the dark malts to create chocolate coated confectionary flavours. Tangy Turkish Delights come to mind but it’s not as sweet. All in all it’s a light and yet indulgent treat of a Porter well suited for the cozy nights we have to look forward to.
