We can’t quite believe Summer is on its way or how quickly we are racing through the seasons!
We have chosen the bottles for this pack with sunshine on our minds & holidays in our hearts!
The bottles are from some of our favourite European holiday destinations that will be fantastic with tapas, meze, picnic bits & BBQ’s.
There is a selection of 2 Whites, 1 Rose, 1 Sparkling Pet Nat & 2 Reds.
As always, a leaning toward wines that are farmed organically & made with respect for land & grape.
This months pack includes:
Entre Vinyes Oniric Pet Nat Rose (Spain)
A rosé sparkling wine that tastes like fizzy raspberry juice, in the best way possible. A wine to share amongst good company that will go down perfectly in most occasions. Soft bubbles, red fruits, low alcohol… a must taste.
Made by Maria & Pep, a couple who started from scratch in 2012 after taking over some old vineyards, and have slowly built this project into the successful and experimental winery it is today.
Amorro Blanco (Spain)
This is the wildcard of the wine pack! A brand new listing from a brand new supplier that Jamie recently tasted & loved! The perfect white for grilled fish, fried seafood or tapas in the sun.
Amorro Blanco is made out of old 30-45 years old Palomino vines which is the grape variety made famous in sherry production in Southern Spain where this wine is made – near Cadiz.
Fermented spontaneously and aged for 8 months in fiberglass. Only 5000 bottles are produced. The word ‘Amorro’ in the local dialect means to drink straight from the bottle which we are not recommending but it gives you an idea of the thirst quenching flavours of this wine!
Turi Marino Vulcano Rosso (Sicily)
I am sure you may recognise these labels! We have the white & Rosato (light red) from this winemaker. A collaboration between two friends, Illustrator Gaurab Thakali, and Winemaker Turi Marino who work alongside one another to produce these new Sicilian wines. A trio of wines, with labels to match. Taken from a representation of Mount Etna’s eruption, split across three wines all grown on Sicilian soil!
This Vulcano Rosso is a red wine designed to be a people pleaser, a light easy-drinking red bursting with character and minerality. Perfect chilled but easily drunken as a winter red as it has richer fruit & a touch more earthy depth than the Rosato. A proper taste of Sicily! Pretend you are on the beach after a tomato ragu pasta lunch!
Artisans Vignerons Naoussa Xinomavro (Greece)
We had this open last weekend for an in-store tasting & it went down very well!
‘Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa’ are a collective of growers that share a passion for cultivating Xinomavro in the scattered hillside vineyards of the Naoussa region in Northern Greece.
This is the birthplace of the Ximomavro grape, which thrives in the diverse landscape, dotted with forests and creeks, and has a remarkable ability to reflect the land in which it is grown.
Their philosophy is to use natural, organic vineyard treatments and minimalist winery practices to produce characterful wines which reflect their roots and the traditional craftmanship of the area.
This is a beautifully complex lighter style red with red fruit, dried fruit & tea like fine tannins. It is now 6 years old so gaining age & developing flavours of tobacco & dried herbs. Xinomavro can be liked to a Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo with great acidity & ability to age.
This could be great alongside minted roast lamb kebabs, venison or mushroom dishes. It can hande a lot of herby gamey flavours while being light & pretty on its feet.
Amu Vermentino (Sardinia)
Amu is an outstanding reflection of Sardinia. A dry, fresh & invigorating Vermentino wine that pairs perfectly with typical Mediterranean foods like grilled vegetables & seafood. With aromas of lemon peel, lemon thyme & white flowers, it offers a richness but with an uplifting salinity on the finish.
We really liked the label & the nod it gives to the lemon focus of this wine!
Vermentino is one of Italy’s most remarkable grapes, which until recently has been overlooked in favour of more famous French varieties like Sauvignon & Chardonnay. We are over the moon to be championing this example of it! Definitely one of our go-to sunshine whites this Summer.
Flora & Fauna Rose (France)
A great value flavoursome dry Frech Rose that screams sunshine. Wild strawberries and raspberries continue onto the crisp and refreshing palate, where they are complemented by grapefruit and floral notes.
The vineyards of Southern France are as abundant in wildlife as they are in vines, which carpet the land from the mountains to the sea. Working closely with growers we have complete control over quality ensuring that the natural flavours that this incredible terroir offers are carried all the way through to the glass.
