We can’t quite believe Summer is on it’s way or how quickly we are racing through the seasons.
We have chosen the bottles for this pack with sunshine on our minds.
There is a selection of 2 whites, 1 rose, 1 cider & 2 red wines.
We like throwing a rogue bottle of cider in our monthly packs when the feeling takes us & when we have tried a cracker that we want to share. The Pilton Pomme Pomme is a blend of bittersweet English cider apples & their pomme family third cousin, the quince. A fruity style cider where acidity, tartness & fleshy fruit sweetness are all in perfect balance. A picnic bottle if ever we have tried one!
This month’s pack includes:
Kyrenia Roditis (Greece) – A Greek white wine made from 100% Roditis (an ancient native Greek grape variety) from two organically farmed mountain vineyards at 850m altitude. Panagiotis is one of Greece’s most innovative & exciting winemakers. He is dedicated to producing exceptional wines, from organic vineyards planted with indigenous Greek varieties. Kyrenia hails from vineyards at 850m above sea level, produced with Roditis; a distinctive, pink-skinned variety. Fresh & lively, with gorgeous citrus notes, a touch of almond & fragrant thyme. A real triumph of this wonderful grape. The vines are found among the ruins of the ancient lost Peloponnese city of Kyrenia hence the name & label.
Les Vignerons Vermentino Colombard (France) – This has a fresh crisp & floral nose with pleasant white flower & pear notes. Vermentino notes on top of the fresh Gascoigne style Colombard fruit makes this wine very easy drinking. Your new favourite weekday white wine.
Pilton Pomme Pomme Cider (England) – This fruity cider brings together bittersweet cider apples & quince. The unique tart astringency of the quince is balanced here by the natural fruity sweetness of our classic keeved cider. At under 5% alcohol this can be a daytime bottle to pop at the park & glug with pals.
Terra Tangra Merlot Rubin Red (Bulgaria) – This fascinating & exciting red wine blend can claim to be the first wine from Bulgaria made 100% from organically grown grapes. Marrying an international grape (Merlot) with the indigenous Rubin grape variety, the result is unique & utterly convincing. Layers of dark brambly fruit with a herbal note & intense blackcurrant flavours with the whole medley being overlain by a classy sheen of vanilla from the French oak barrel ageing. The tea like tannins are well-mannered, framing perfectly the deep, rich dark fruit.
Mathilde Rose (France) – A perfect Summery food friendly Rose from Loire Valley. Made with Cabernet Franc, this gives fleshy red apple, red berry flavours with a mineral, herbal backbone. This would be amazing with some terriyaki salmon, stir fried noodles or some BBQ sticky aubergine. A vivid pink colour with vibrant flavours & a little weight in the palate to match with flavoursome foods. Enjoy a glass while you cook!
Frankland Estate Rocky Gully Shiraz (Australia) – Generous, ripe plum & red fruit with black pepper & spice on the nose. Follows on to a softly textured, full bodied palate. A little Viognier white wine blended in adds aromatics to the nose. Buried deep in the heart of Western Australia’s most isolated wine region (250km east of Margaret River & inland from the wild & picturesque Great Southern coastline), Frankland Estate is as much a part of its natural landscape as it is a winery. This would be amazing with meaty dishes or enjoy on its own once the sun has gone down.
