This month’s wine pack is a nod to the conundrum which is the weather at the moment. It can also act as a wee European holiday as all the bottles are from our favourite sunshine destinations – France, Italy & Spain!
A beautiful French Rose for when the sun shines for an hour, some richer reds for when the haar rolls in & white wines with lovely minerality & orchard fruit that would be as good enjoyed in the garden as they would curled up on the sofa.
We wanted to showcase some traditional bottles from Old World regions – Chianti, Rioja & Muscadet, plus some more modern wines from lesser known regions in Penedes & Ardeche.
All of these wines are wonderfully food friendly too, they can act as inspiration for dinner parties that we can all now enjoy.
Last but not least is a bottle of frothy fun Prosecco, it is always useful to have a bottle of bubbles in the fridge for when friends & family pop in!
This pack can be ordered & delivered free all over the UK.
June’s pack is made up of 2 Whites, 2 Reds, 1 Rose & a Sparkling. Enjoy!
This month’s pack includes:
Ramon Jane Baudili (Spain) – A playful mix of indigenous Spanish white grape varieties, showing tropical fruit, stone fruit & grapefruit pith, the grapes are Xarello & Parellada which are traditionally used in Cava. It is organically farmed & naturally made with minimal added chemicals. This aromatic white has a touch of salinity to accompany all the fruit, this would make it especially delicious with food, think richer plates like carbonara or saucy fish dishes.
Chateau Selve Le Ballon Rose (France) – This is an organic dry Rose made from 50% Grenache & 50% Cinsault. The palate shows ripe red fruit & a nice round texture upheld by lively acidity. A quintessential sunshine rose. We love to recommend Rose with BBQ’s, curries & flavoursome salads – Grenache Rose’s especially can take a lot of flavour alongside them, they are not just aperitif’s.
Bonnet Blancs Muscadet Sur Lie (France) – An utterly mouthwatering Muscadet! Made with Melon de Bourgogne grapes organically farmed in the Loire Valley, France. This winery practices biodynamics with no use of chemical herbicides. The grapes are hand picked & vinified with wild yeasts. Fresh, fruity & with some weight from the lees aging from the ‘sur lie’ technique of winemaking. Aromas of flint & citrus, a hint of spritz on the palate, steely with bright fruit & an electrifying minerality. The ultimate oyster companion, Chablis alternative, cool & fresh, seafood friendly dinner party white.
When We Dance Chianti (Italy) – Aromas of ripe black cherries, sandalwood, cedar & strawberry compote. Texturally balanced bright acidity, juicy fruits & a joyful, lingering sense of the vineyards at Il Palagio. Great accompaniment to herby tomato pasta, baked fish & traditional rustic Tuscan recipes. This wine is farmed organically & the vineyards are teeming with biodiversity including thousands of wildflowers, olive trees & bee hives.
Gatito Loco Organic Rioja (Spain) – It is beyond doubt that Rioja is one of the foremost wine regions in the world, but that doesn’t mean there is no more potential to be tapped or no new approaches to be explored. The team behind this wine definitely believe this & have been focusing more & more on what goes on in the vineyard than the winery. Working with selected vineyards that have been converted to organics, the resulting wines are all about the fruit rather than oak & the ageing process. Pair with tapas, chorizo & vegetable ragu dishes to see the fruitiness of this young Rioja sing.
Bella Modella Prosecco (Italy) – Crisp, deliciously frothy & filled with ripe apple, pear & citrus fruit character, this is the model of a perfect Prosecco. Serve chilled with friends!
