Beautiful Biodynamic Bordeaux. A very elegant wine with very fine tannins, lots of blackcurrant and black cherries. A deep aromatic purity highlights how elegant Margaux can be, more focused on purity of fruit than the more savoury cigar box character that Bordeaux from the right bank is famous for.
This is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Margaux second growth, Chateau Durfort-Vivens. This estate has undergone a renaissance since Gonzague Lurton took the reigns. He began converting to biodynamics in 2009 as he found this farming method to be the best possible means of expressing the singularity of Durfort-Vivens terroir. 2016 saw the estate gain both organic and demeter certification, and made it the first Margaux Grand Cru Classe to achieve double certification. Lurton has also made Amphorae an integral part of his maturation regime; and interestingly, Dufort-Vivens is home to the largest cellar by volume of amphorae in the world! The La Nature is his cuvee made completely without the addition of sulphites. It spent 4 months in new oak barrels before a further 14 months in terracotta amphorae.
