A rare 11 year old expression of heavily peated Lochindaal from Bruichladdich. Matured in Virgin Oak barrels for 11 years before finishing in a sweet Pedro Ximenez Sherry Firkin for 6 months. Bottled at natural cask strength, non chill filtered.
We were quite blown away by this, layers and layers of sweet toffee, vanilla and dried fruit over rich bonfire smoke, spice and maritime notes. It finishes super long and smouldering with savoury cured meats and winter spices. A uniquely amplified Islay that shows balance in it’s oak tannin, alcohol and fruit/smoke expression.
“A beautiful reimagined malt from the past. Lochindaal was one of the original distilleries on Islay that closed a century after it opened it’s doors. We love the modern day interpretation from Bruichladdich, naturally heavily peated, we have balanced it’s smokiness with Pedro Ximenez seasoning.”
This is an exciting first release from Ferg & Harris Independent bottlers, who have some great follow up releases planned for the future.
Also worth noting that although they pre-approved the label to say 1 of 200 bottles, in truth the cask only released 70 bottles.
Distilled 01.09.2009 – bottled 30.09.20.
