It has been a stormy start but we may have managed to shake off the depths of winter & can now look forward to Spring slowly creeping in.
After the red wine heavy & richer styles of wine we have been drinking & chatting about for the last few months we are so happy to be looking at fresher, lighter & zesty wines for the start of March.
We launch this month’s pack in time for the schools returning to help smooth over that adjustment back to normality & routine.
We also decided this was the time of year to treat you to 2 Sparklings in the pack – upcoming birthdays, anniversaries & any-excuse friend/family occasions are calling to be celebrated so we wanted to give you the necessary tools.
This month’s pack includes:
Marcobarba Barbabolla Frizzante – A blend of Garganega, Glera, Moscatel, Riesling & Trebbiano to make this cloudy Frizzante style Italian Sparkling wine from the Veneto region. This is a zippy, frothy, citrusy fizz that demands a second glass (or three!). Trebbiano & Garganega are two grape varieties that often fly under the radar, yet in the hands of the right winemaker, they can produce delicious, distinctive wines. This couldn’t be more true for the ‘Barbabolla’. Glera is the same grape used for Prosecco & brings in the soft orchard fruit flavours. Moscatel & Riesling are both very aromatic grapes giving perfume & floral blossom aromas to this wine. A new addition to the range we think will stay for the whole of Summer too! (Vegan & Biodynamic)
La Jara Pinot Grigio Spumante Rosado – A very pretty Sparkling Rose that is perfect to keep in the fridge & pop when pals come over. It is light in alcohol so great for lunchtime sipping too. We have a few wines from the winery as we like their dedication to organic viticulture & they focus on making affordable wines of outstanding quality. Expect a soft fizz with flavours of strawberry & raspberry while not becoming sickly sweet. (Vegan & Organic)
Blandine Gascogne Blanc – A bright & fresh white wine with delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus & crisp green fruit. This wine is a refreshing blend of Colombard, Ugni Blanc & a touch of Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Côtes de Gascogne area of South-West France. This would be a great accompaniment to baked white fish, creamed leeks & fresh greens. A healthy & tasty midweek treat on both sides! (Vegan & Organic)
Landron Chartier Esprit Rouge – A beautiful hand harvested Gamay from a warmer vintage, a short maceration & no crushing keeps things fresh. Landron Chartier have been farming organically for over a decade now & are a full family affair. The climate of the Coteaux de la Loire is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean & the Loire River. It is a soft climate; not too cold, not too warm & little rainy. The hills where the winery is allow for deep roots, so good ripeness. The moderate temperature in Summer allows for freshness in the wine. This is a lighter style French red made with Gamay grapes – same as Beaujolais – but Loire examples tend to have a bit more fruit & structure. Juicy with bright red fruits, light & moreish. Worth noting it is just at 12.5% alcohol too. (Organic & Vegan)
Vermador Airen Macabeo – An easy going Organic Spanish white: fragrant, fresh & tangy, with plenty of fruit & minerals on the palate for good measure. This has been a bit of a secret favourite with our regulars for a while now so we thought we should pop it in a wine pack to give it some spotlight time. Made with native Spanish varieties this is a crowd pleaser in terms of taste but nice to try a step away from your usual go-to-grapes (Organic & Vegan)
Cantina Pizzolato Hero Merlot – Now we know that this label is pretty wacky, it is certainly not to our taste but we don’t like to judge a book by its cover & the wine inside the bottle is far superior to the label (apologies to the designer if you happen to be on our newsletter list!). H-Hero Rosso is a Merlot by La Cantina Pizzolato, who impressively for the Veneto, works only with organic grapes. Distinctly fruity on the nose showing blackcurrant & attractive floral notes. Dry, fruity & full-bodied, with a firm tannic structure & a delicate touch of pepper. It is another bottle on the lower alcohol side at 11.5% which is especially nice for a red & something that we get requests for a lot in the shop. (Organic & Vegan)
