Description

This is a great way of getting a friendly welcome into orange wines…

A way to explore different styles of skin contact wine with texture & big aromatics.

Unico Zelo Esoterico (Australia) – A gem of orange wine made with Fiano, Zibbibo, Moscato Giallo, Gewurtztraminer & Greco with grapes coming from Riverland & Clare Valley. This has become one of the wineries most cult-followed wines since they began making it. It is easy to see why as it remains elegant & fresh while evoking memories of mango & tropical fruit all finishing up with a juicy pithy tannin. Expect flavours of herbal beeswax combined with pineapple, dried mango & blood orange. A crowd friendly but complex orange wine.

Oskar Maurer Kovidinka (Serbia) – An easygoing, crisp, juicy orange wine, packed with fresh stone-fruit, hints of orange paired with delicate herbal notes and refreshing acidity is all you need to get the party going. The grapes are grown on old bush-wines resulting in a very low yield. They are hand harvested and de-stemmed soaked for 7 days to extract just the right amount of colour. Later, the juice ferments and ages in 350l old Hungarian oak barrels. The wine gets bottled unfined, unfiltered with a tiny addition of sulphur just before bottling.

Domaine Sablonnettes Zeste Maceration (France) – Made with Chenin Blanc from Coteaux du Layon.  Whole clusters of grapes undergo maceration for 1 month, then pressed, fermented and aged in carbon fibre. Rigorous and passionate, Chris and Jo are meticulous in their practice of biodynamic methods, remaining constantly attuned to the natural variations of the harvest each year – always with stunning results. Some of the vines here are over 50 years old, and all the grapes are harvested by hand. This orange wine is very citrus flavour driven with a lovely apple skin tannin. Would be great with food like pate, roast pork, a cheese board or charcuterie.
