New release from David at Chorlton Whisky Co. Once again a tiny outturn of bottles means this will be on 1 per customer so as many people as possible can try these exciting single casks.
Nose: Stroopwafel, orange, savoury smoke, coal dust.
Palate: Chewy and thick, with salty/sweet toffee, PX treacle and raisins, burnt orange peel and lapsang souchong. The sweetness from the marsala cask is balanced by the slight smokiness, and it’s just a grand old dram for Christmas.
The backstory of this one is: the distillery information has been lost (the warehouse just had it listed as “Highland”) and it was supposedly in a standard refill bourbon hogshead. It was very clear that couldn’t be the case from the cask sample, but it took a bit of digging to find out that it was a marsala hogshead. Didn’t even know that marsala came in anything other than barriques! Anyway, a happy discovery.
Only 265 bottles released. Bottles at natural cask strength.
