A fruity soft English white wine

A richer Portuguese Chardonnay

A chocolatey fruity Italian Primitivo

These six wines will cover all the weather that September is likely to throw at us, we have things to suit sunshine in the garden as well as chilly darker evenings on the sofa.

Ca di Rajo Le Moss Organic Rose Sparkling (Italy)

Le Moss Rosato (in the Treviso dialect “le moss” means fizzy) is a lightly sparkling wine made with selected red grapes, no added sugar & selected yeasts, which does a second fermentation in bottle; Its production method, called ancestral, does not include filtration. The yeasts, once fermetation is finished, remain on the bottom of the bottle & this is where the Italian expression “col fondo” or the French “sur lie” (on the yeasts) come from.

Notes of rose, fresh berries & wild strawberries.

Charming, unique & lots of fun to drink.

Sumo Cat Riesling (Germany)

The nose has an aromatic bouquet of green apple, pear & a hint of citrus. It has classic Riesling crisp acidity on the palate, complemented by notes of ripe peach, apricot & a touch of honey. There is minerality on the palate adding depth & a clean, refreshing finish.

Its bright acidity & fruit-forward profile will be delicious with spicy Asian dishes, such as Thai green curry or Szechuan chicken. The wines subtle touch of sweetness on the finish pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses & charcuterie boards too, while its crisp finish makes it an excellent match for seafood dishes like grilled shrimp or scallops. Riesling is so food friendly & this great value example can go alongside a mid-week takeaway this month!

Westwell Ortega – Organic (England)

Made with Ortega grapes grown on the North Downs in Kent, England. This year’s vintage showcases everything we love about Ortega as a variety – a nose of tropical fruit & on the palate a herbal, saline finish.

Fermented in stainless steel at slightly lower temperatures to give precise floral aromas of honeysuckle, grapefruit & peach. The Ortega is planted in the sandiest, most sheltered spot of all to fully develop its fruit-forward, aromatic style.

A lovely example of English white wine that would be really easy to pair with… from everyhting like roast chicken to more spicy sesame prawn toast for example.

A & D Wines Monologo Organic Chardonnay (Portugal)

A Chardonnay from an organically-farmed single plot in Quinta de Santa Teresa, Portugal. The vines are situated at between 450-520m of elevation on terraced slopes in this bucolic region, known more readily for its production of indigenous Vinho Verde varieities. Chardonnay also thrives here, & the combination of high altitude & hot summers leads to a lovely balance of freshness & bold fruit flavour in the wine. The nose shows waxy lemon oil with a tropical tone, giving way to a roundly textured palate of quince accented with pleasing citrusy acidity.

Altolandon Mil Historias Organic Malbec (Spain)

Owner & winemaker, Rosalia Molina, makes organic wines in one of Spain’s highest altitude wineries in Manchuela. The nose on this Malbec is complex with powerful aromas of blackberry & blueberry with rose, rosemary & violets as well as a hint of spice. The palate is nicely concentrated with fine tannis. The flavours of blueberry, plum & blackberry are big, with hints of bittersweet cocoa & a subtle stimulating flavour of mint, dark cherry, blackberry, red plum, earth, espresso, tobacco, dark chocolate, black pepper, black tea, violet.

Such complexity in the combination of flavours from this Spanish Malbec make it a great alternative for someone who usually turns to Argentina for their Malbec hit.

A really delicious take on the well loved grape.

Tinazzi Corone Primitivo (Italy)

Tinazzi is a progressive & sustainable winery specialising in Puglian varieties. Primitivo grapes were picked from selected vineyards around Apulia, pressed & destemmed before being fermented on the skins for 10 days.

Full & plump with notes of red fruits; plum & morello cherry, leading into hints of sweet spices & chocolate.

This would be great with beef, venison & hard cheeses.
