Description

September is nearly here! Autumn is coming! We can all feel the difference in the weather when we step out in the morning. There has not been much of a Summer so far so let’s hope we can enjoy some sunny September days even as the evenings draw in earlier.

We have chosen a selection of six bottles (two whites, two reds, a sparkling Cremant & a cider) for this months box.

We also have decided to theme them! All September Pack bottles are from France! We love France & French wine is considered some of the best in the world for a very good reason.

Caveat – this pack theme was not chosen by our resident Francophile Golnar but she is very happy to see the French gems in there & she helped with some of the tasty dish ideas. Merci!

We wanted to show a range across France from excellent sparkling cider from Normandy to richer red blends from Languedoc in Southern France, taking pit stops along the way at Burgundy & The Loire Valley.

5 of them are made with organic or biodynamic farming too.

This pack is eligible for FREE DELIVERY across the UK mainland & should be with you in 1-2 days from ordering.

We have included some great food ideas to go alongside these specific wines but we are always happy to chat food/drink matching in the shop for whatever you are cooking/ordering in.

Vin des Potes Apache Rouge

A medium bodied blend of Carignan, Grenache & Mourvèdre from Southern France. This is a serious but juicy red from Vin des Potes (meaning ‘mates wine’) featuring a red & dark fruit mix on a finely tannic palate with notes of black cherry, blackcurrant & fresh herbs, juicy & extremely drinkable.

Vin des Potes is a project between two friends who collaborate with highly respected natural winemakers in wine regions they love, producing an eclectic range with a portfolio the spans across Greece, France & Italy. It’s a hard life, eh? This one is from from a small parcel of vines in Corbieres, Languedoc, France.

The flavour profile of this tasty red would be perfect with roast pork, duck or other Autumnal game dishes with some spiced red cabbage. Also tried & tested as an excellent pizza wine!

Sebastien Brunet Vouvray Sparkling

Vouvray is a diverse appellation in the Touraine district of the Loire, with atlantic & continental influence producing still & sparkling white wines.

This Sparkling is made in ‘methode traditionelle’, the same as Champagne but using Chenin Blanc grapes from their natural home in the Loire.

This is the perfect aperitif – A refreshing fruit driven Crémant with a touch on acacia. It is dry on the palate with lovely elegant bubbles & green apple & light florals. This bottle would also be ideal with fish & shellfish dishes, whether British fish & chips, sushi, Scottish smoked salmon salad or a hearty bowl of Moules.

**Due to popularity of this months pack, we have made a swap!**

Ponce Blanco (Spain) has subbed in for the Pierreclos Macon Chardonnay

This is a beautiful light Spanish white that we felt had a Chablis quality to it with bright citrus & minerality.

Expect this to be a refreshing, mineral & saline wine in the mouth with layers of zesty lemon, grapefruit & a green herbal, clean fennel-like note. A distinctive & delicious white.

Ponce is made from Albilla grape (which was a first for us!) it is a little-grown variety distinct from other Albillos grown in Spain or the Canary Islands.

Perfect with light & delicate food such as crab & prawns, steamed or grilled fish. Also would be delightful with the most classic of French starters – fish pâtés with some dill or chicken & herb vegetable terrines with a baguette.

Capmartin Cosmique White

A bouquet of white fruits, tangy notes making this lively, fresh & supple. This cosmic cuveé with it’s low sulphur reveals the potential of its stony terroir in Southern France near the Spanish border. Made with a blend of Viognier 40% Chardonnay 30% Sauvignon Blanc & Sauvignon Gris 30%

Simon of Domaine Capmartin has dusted off the historic traditions of Madiran & Pacherenc de Vic-Bil into a new, more progressive age.

He has set about significant changes amongst the vines & in the winery leading to his own unique versions of these truly exceptional AOP wines. Certified organic for the best part of a decade, Simon is now striving further with his sights firmly set on Biodynamic certification. Natural, low intervention winemaking are the watchwords. No added sulphur, all wild ferments & aiming for light tannin extractions on his red wines.

This is a flexible food friendly white that has the weight & flavour to take on a lot of dishes – Pair with roasted or grilled chicken, veal chops, pork souvlaki, spiced scallops & thai curries. I told you it was flexible!

Flora & Fauna Rouge

A blend of Merlot, Carignan & Grenache, Flora & Fauna Rouge is deep in colour & packed full of dark forest fruit aromas on the nose – blackberry, plum, blackcurrants & sloe berries. On the palate the true Languedoc character comes through – rich & concentrated with lots of garrigue herbs & spice plus a freshness that makes the wine very approachable.

The vineyards of Southern France are as abundant in wildlife as they are in vines, which carpet the land from the mountains to the sea. Working closely with growers we have complete control over quality ensuring that the natural flavours that this incredible terroir offers are carried all the way through to the glass.

Domaine des Cinq Autels – Normandy Cidre

Made using traditional methods this is a 100% pure juice cider made from a blend of dessert, cooking & cider apples – many of them ancient Norman varieties. Despite its name, the Brut is more like medium dry with a little bit of the apple juicy sweetness but not overly so.

It’s crisp, clean & refreshing & its complex apple flavours shine through. A delightful tipple for the sunshine as an aperitif or alongside a picky lunch of quiche, ham & camembert. If you’d like to eat & drink as they do in Normandy then serve alongside a savoury crepe with leeks & cheese! Delicieux!

Domaine des Cinq Autels started the production of cider in 1984. They have continued the organic practice to produce high-quality products in the most eco-friendly & healthy way. Today, nearly 40 years later, they are still as convinced by this choice & are making ciders, as well as cognac, with the same passion.

Thanks for reading!

Wishing you a happy September!
