Floral, bright and crunchy red from Portugals Baga variety. Red berry fruits open up to earthy background aromatics. The palate is firm and fresh, with mouth-watering acidity and a long pure finish.
When we tried this as a team it was denser and more concentrated than we expected. There was lots of blackberry and black raspberry with good fine gripping tannins.
Made by Portuguese wine legend Dirk van der Niepoort at Quinta de Baixo in Bairrada. Dirk has been working here since 2010 and thinks the combination of chalky clay soils and the Baga grape variety makes this potentially some of Portugal’s best terroir.
This wine comes from a foudre of Baga he’d been keeping back – fresh and drinkable but with depth and complexity, and another barrel that adds ripeness and vibrancy
