A beautiful Nerello Mascalese dominant red from Sicily’s Mount Etna. This shows off the mineral, volcanic, cherry notes we love so much about Etna wines.
Warm red cherry, black cherry, plum and red apple skin, with volcanic, granitic wet stone. Medium to lighter with firm yet fine fleshy tannins rolling on to a gripping finish with more fleshy tannins, long an warming.
The fruit for Versante Nord comes from two parcels – Pietramarina and Crasa – on the cooler, north-facing side of Sicily’s Mt. Etna, where vines average 50 years old.
80% Nerello Mascalese: 20% native varieties.
spontaneously fermented with some whole grape clusters with a 15 day maceration in cement tank. Then aged 16 months in 7.5 hectoliter Slavonian oak botti.
