Description

Double Pinot is a wild yeast co-ferment made with a blend of Pinot Noir and Meunier. The 2022 Vintage gave us some riper, richer fruit and whilst this is a light fresh wine it has some real depth to the mid-palate and a lovely finish. It is classic cherry red in colour with aromas of wild strawberries and cherries and on the palate exhibits flavours of red fruits.

600kg whole bunch, 1200kg of destemmed whole berries and 1200kg of crushed grapes layer in a tank undergo semi carbonic for two weeks. Gently pressed into steel tanks to complete fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged in tanks and old oak barrels.

Adrian Pike took over the Westwell estate from previous owner John Rowe in 2016. Westwell’s vineyards are located on a south facing slope on chalk soil in the Kent Downs, planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Ortega. Adrian gained experience at Davenport Vineyards, and when he left to take over Westwell in 2016 he convinced Marcus Goodwin (with 20 years in vineyard management) to join him.

Prior to working in wine Adrian made his name in the independent music sector and has brought some of that spirit along with him into the English wine world. Combined with a pragmatic approach to vineyard management and what is truly an exceptional vineyard site, we are thrilled to see the continuous developments occurring at Westwell.
