A selection of our current favourite whites with a Winter focus. This pack covers everything from a spritzy Vinho Verde, the perfect aperitif, to some richer more food friendly wines, creamy Chardonnay, ripe vviognier and a lovely white Rioja. We hope you enjoy exploring then as much as we enjoyed tasting and putting the selection together:)
LE BON COTE BLANC – A blend of Vermentino & local grape variety Terret from Languedoc, France. A smooth fruity white wine with flavours of tinned pear, honeydew melon, green apple & grassiness. This winery works sustainably, they like to encourage biodiversity in all their vineyards.
HARTENBERG CHARDONNAY – White pear, tropical fruits, vanilla and roasted almonds on the bouquet, marries flawlessly to a rich, melded palate. The subtle, integrated oak aromas contribute to a long, creamy finish, underpinned by a rapier-like fresh acidity. Barrel Ageing – 10 months French Oak (225litre) 20 % new, 30% in 2nd fill, balance in 3rd fill barrels. Fermented & matured.
MATETIC CORRALILLO GEWURZTRAMINER – Cool climate, biodynamic farming, sustainably focussed…there’s alot going for this Chilean Gewurtztraminer. It’s clear and bright, juicy with lychee, ginger, yellow plum and ripe stone fruits but the finish is comfortably taught which keeps it refreshing and very crowd pleasing.
DOMAINE DE LA BAUME VIOGNIER – An intense sun drenched golden yellow colour with notes of fresh apricot and white peach, full and savoury with a hint of white pepper. This is a richer style of viognier with a medium palate weight which pairs well with slightly richer dishes.
VINHO VERDE ADEGA DE MONCAO – Fresh on the heels of our fan favourite Chin Chin Vinho Verde, we have sourced this super summery, ripe, aromatic and refreshing zippy citrus filled Vinho Verde. With classic spritz and vibrant sherbet notes. The Vinho Verde co-operative, located just south of the Spanish-Portuguese border, is a producer with a growing reputation in these parts, having been founded as recently as 2008. Since then, the quality of production has gone from strength to strength and the employment of modern wine making techniques ensures this trajectory looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.
GATITO LOCO ORGANIC RIOJA BLANCO – A bright fruit-bursting wine that emphasises vineyard over bodega, which discards the hackneyed image of Rioja, everything about this wine is intentionally provocative to challenge your view on what Rioja is. Careful. This kitty has claws. Clean and crisp, intense yet fresh, the stone fruit, peachy notes are supported by tropical passion fruit and mango with citrus undertones. A long complex finish.
