We’ve long loved the refreshing Branco & spicy Tinto from Alvaro & Maria Castro, & now their rosé makes it 3 for 3! Made from a mix of Portugese native grape varieties & a little Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s coral pink & full of ripe tropical & berry fruits with a beautiful nectarine & honeysuckle on the nose.
Delicious & hugely drinkable.
Dry, fruity & flavoursome, it is fantastic by itself but has enough flavour to stand up to grilled seafood, a burrata & peach salad or even take along to a BYOB restaurant for a spiced curry.
Today the Dão is probably the best place in Portugal to find fresher aromatic styles of wine made from one of the many interesting indigenous grape varieties Portugal has to offer. And Alvaro Castro is arguably the best winemaker in the region. With white varieties such as Encruzado, Cerceal Branco and Bical and reds such as the Tourigas Nacional and Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Cão, it’s not surprising that Alvaro makes many different wines. What links them is his of traditional and modern techniques, creating wines of balance and integrity.
