Description
Stellenbosch has various sites and terroirs, allowing Mick to “let the grapes do the talking…” The Cravens are working increasingly with farmers who understand the importance of cover crops and fewer chemical treatments
Producing a Cabernet Sauvignon was never part of the plan for Mick and Jeanine, but when a small parcel of grapes became available on the Karibib farm, with a relatively low sugar level, they could not resist. Made with 100% Whole Bunch, pressed off a little early so as not to leave too much tannin. Elevage was in 225L barrels for 10 months.
Mick and his wife Jeanine started Craven Wines in 2014, sourcing fruit from single vineyard sites in and around Stellenbosch and making “site-specific, honest wines”. Originally from Australia Mick met Jeanine whilst working in Sonoma, California, before both moving to South Africa in 2011.
