Another new one, another concept, this time to capture the essence of the 2019 harvest, from barrel into bottle. An extensive tasting of 2019 barrels were tasted and slowly whittled down to just six blended and bottled. It reflects very clearly the vintage, which was difficult, raining almost daily from the 24th of September until, well March. What shone through was the early variety, Browns Apple, beautiful, fully ripe fruit that came in before the rains, supplemented by 3 of the later varieties, Dabinett and Harry Masters Jersey, carefully selected from the home orchard and Yarlington Mill from 80 year old trees on a nearby farm. The cider reflects this blend too. Slight funk on the nose but underneath bright yellow fruit and flowers. On the palate it’s citrus up front before the richness of the late varieties and the barrels kicks in to round it all out.
