Description

Another great value blended whisky from Thompson Bros in Dornoch.

To create this blend and tackle to increasingly difficult challenge of releasing reasonably priced whisky, they started with 3 hogsheads of very nice, very sherried, reasonably matured blended scotch whisky, to that they added 2 barrels of 11 year old, bourbon matured Speyside whisky. Then came 20.8% of the blend made up with 1994 Strathclyde aged grain whisky, from a refill barrel. It’s all too often assumed that the grain component in blends is young and flavourless, but here the team at Thompson Bros have gone for a complex aged grain to round out this release.

The final touch was a blended malt aged in ex Campervan beer, and before that Australian Shiraz, cask. This added a little funk and some leafy savoury notes.
