A 17 year old Single Malt distilled in 2006 and aged in 2 refill barrels before bottling by Thompson Bros.
From time to time independent bottlers come across unique casks of whisky that were sold without the permission to use the original distillery name, this can be for number of reasons but often the distillers did not wnat their trade mark or name to appear. These ‘secret’ malts can be some of the best value Single Malts we see released as the whisky is easily as good but has sold and been bottled for a lower price than any distillery bottlings. They are often, like this one, rare older expressions from hard to find distilleries.
While we can’t say what the distillery is, it is of course Speyside and one that’s reknowned for it’s fruity and luscious character. Using long fermantation times, 6 stills and worm tub condensers it produces a whisky that’s fruit forward, with weight and complexity. Expressions this old are not often seen.
This delivers on all of the promise of a refill, older whisky from them with rich orchard fruit, zesty citrus and even a touch of apricot. The palate has notes of fresh pastry, shortbread and a touch of menthol.
