Description

We have our hands on Dave Morris’ first solo releases since leaving Ancre Hill – 500 bottles of each made – first come, first served!

From just 1.5 tons of fruit harvested in his first vintage. Infusion of the skins and juice for 20 days and pressed into 500 litre french oak where it aged for 18 months. The wine is bright, aromatic and under-layed with forest fruit and spice.

David grew up in Wales and returned here in the late 2000’s to take over the management of the family Estate at Ancre Hill. Here he pioneered Biodynamic vineyard management and wine-making in the UK and remains at the vanguard of the industry to this day. In 2019 he left the estate to forge his own path in vineyard management whilst setting about improving the vines at a vineyard in Tintern, Parva Farm. Here he introduced a rigorous pruning regime and reduced the input of agro-chemicals to zero. The vineyard, a 2ha plot of multiple varietals, is on a steep south facing slope 100 metres above River Wye planted in the early 1980s. The tough 2019 vintage yielded nothing, with just a small crop in 2020 of Pinot Noir, and an equally small harvest in 2021 led to a field blend rosé. Once the vines get used to their new management the yields will improve and in time we will see some single varietal wines emerging.

Alongside the vineyard, David has also created Wales only contract wine making cellar. He has invested in his own equipment to create a micro cuverie, from where he produces not only his own wines, but the wines of three or four other Welsh vineyards, using oak (second passage white Bordeaux demi muid), Tinjajas and eggs to ferment and age wines. His wines are light footed and expressive of the style of wines made in Wales, with no intervention or additions and we are excited to follow him in this new venture.
