Dominated by a note of ripe and lightly bruised pear, this walks the line between textural white and orange wine, the result is a ripe and fun wine, great to share with friends as it’s very hard not to like.
The Renner family have been cultivating vines in the village of Gols in Neusiedlersee since 1988. Already back then, parents Helmuth and Birgit put a deep emphasis on organic viticulture. When the new generation was slowly coming to an age to think about careers, their parents never forced them to take over, and so Susanne, Stefanie and Georg pursued alternative careers without ever losing touch with their home and local friends.
After some years spent working in fashion and studying water management respectively, Susanne and Stefanie took a chance and returned to their family’s winery without formal education. It was by chance that Steffi ended up working harvest with Tom Lubbe of Domaine Matassa as well as Tom Shobbrook, two dear friends and mentors of the family today. They dived straight into a new world of wine that allowed them early on to work by instinct rather than having the burden of keeping a style or collection of the estate alive, breathing new life into the winery.
What started as the ‘Rennersistas’ with Steffi and Susanne’s return, is now an ever-evolving family estate under the working title ‘Renner und Rennersistas’, since Georg (the youngest of the three) joined the winery from his previous job in logistics. Together, they tend parcels in some of the best vineyards by Lake Neusiedlersee including Altenberg, Schafleiten, Goldberg, Gebühl and Ungerberg. For them, maintaining healthy vines and soil is paramount to producing honest, characterful wines. The 13 hectares of vines are farmed biodynamically and most recently the family has also planted new mixed field blend vineyards that will show an exciting new facet to their work over the coming years!
