12 Volts is the flagship wine of 4 Kilo’s, a very exciting organic winery from Mallorca, the Balearic island.
Made with Callet Fogoneu, a native Mallorcan grape variety, blended with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot.
Expect dark berries & forest fruits, an earthy backbone with a touch of leather giving plenty of savoury depth. A crisp minerality keeps this wine fresh & bright.
Great to drink by itself or with rustic meat dishes.
Made in a modern hands off style using a blend of steel, old American & French oak, organic farming & wild yeasts.
4 Kilos was set up in 2006 by former Anima Negra winemaker Francesc Grimalt & musician Sergio Caballero (who also owns the Sonar music festival). Grimalt was mainly responsible for rescuing the Balearic variety Callet which features in this wine, along with newer plantings of the usual suspects Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Syrah. Taking grapes from North & South Mallorca they vinify them in a converted sheep farm using a combination of stainless steel & open top oak fermenters.
The name 4 Kilos comes from their initial investment of 4 million pesetas, which so far looks like money well spent!
