Description
The eagerly anticipated release of the 2021 vintage from Domaine Dagueneau in the Loire Valley.
Founded by Didier Dagueneau and today operated by his son Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau who took over in 2008 following Didier’s death.
A true master of Sauvignon Blanc, Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau produces cuvées reknowned for their purity and precision.
Due to a challenging, small-yielding season (-60% crop) and a high level of rot toward harvest, the XXI is the only wine produced by Dagueneau in 2021. It is a blend of the various cuvées that would typically be bottled separately. It’s all mouth watering gooseberry and elderflower on the nose with green apples and a tangy sense of refreshment on the bright finish. It reflects the cooler side of the vintage with a good grip holding the mouth.
This wine will continue to develop for the next decade if held.
More about the estate… Domaine Didier Dagueneau is one of France’s great iconic estates. Since 1982 Domaine Dagueneau has produced singular, mind bendingly complex and age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc in Pouilly-Fumé. The stunning purity and depth of Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé is something every serious wine lover needs to experience at least once in his/her life. Few wines have developed as devoted a cult following as those of the late Didier Dagueneau. His son has taken over wine-making and he has the deftly tough as his father. His Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau has been named Winemaker Of The Year by La Revue du Vin de France.
