Description

A deep purple, aromatic Mediterranean red, charmingly juicy with ripe red cherry, sloes and liquorice. Nicely rounded with a freshness on the finish.

Florian Busch grew up in the Mosel, among vines and wine at his family Weingut Clemens Busch. After studying viticulture and winemaking, and working with his parents for a while, he travelled to France to gain wider experience. He started at Château de Roquefort in Provence, and liked the area so much he returned over several seasons. While working at Domaine d’Auphillac, a pre-eminent biodynamic winery in the Languedoc, he met his future wife Paola, there was no way he was going back to Germany now! They made plans for their own project and in 2018 found the right site. Their vineyards, and a garden of medicinal plants, are located near the village of Montpeyroux, surrounded by a forest of laurels. They started with five hectares of Vermentino (called Rolle in this area) some Carignan and Grenache, and have added further vineyards in 2020. Florian works very naturally in the vineyard, according to the principles of organics and biodynamics from the start. He ferments with natural yeasts and ages the wines in neutral vessels. The wines have a playfulness and a warmth which speaks of their Mediterranean origins, balanced by freshness and precision. This is an exciting young project, with a great pedigree, and we can’t wait to see how it continues to grow.
