Description
This Highland single malt was matured in a refill sherry butt before being given a final two years maturing in a fresh Oloroso butt. The sherry wood is quite restrained on the nose with the fruity distillate displaying a mouthwatering array of zesty green fruit notes, the palate however leaves one in no doubt of the sherry maturation with thick dried figs and raisins mingling beautifully with grated apple and lashings of honey. A little water brings out bursts of wood spice and some of the citrus promised on the nose. Vibrant and fresh, a wonderful conversational dram.
Teaninich, located in the northeast Highlands, was founded in 1817. It produces malt whisky to meet high demand from blenders. Unlike other distilleries, Teaninich uses a mash filter rather than the conventional mash tun to extract the worts.
“With just the vaguest hint of Andalusian sherry influence surrounding the fresh fruity notes on
the nose, it springs to life with characteristic dried fruitsbalancedgracefullywithhoneyed fruits. Uplifting and fresh, it is a rare and delightful dram from a distillery found on an equally enchanting and prolific salmon river – the Alness.” Ronnie BBR
